The Historical Roots of hbw – A Place with Tradition
Today’s Haus der Bayerischen Wirtschaft stands on historic grounds in the heart of Munich. As early as the 19th century, the renowned Grand Hotel Continental was located here; beginning in 1892, it welcomed guests from the worlds of nobility, politics, and culture from all over Europe and was regarded as a social hub. After being destroyed during World War II, the building was rebuilt and reopened, before finally closing its doors in 1994. On April 25, 1997, the hbw opened at the same location and continues to this day the tradition as a meeting place for business, politics, and society. You can find the complete, fascinating history of the site in the book “Ort der Begegnung: Vom Grand Hotel zum Haus der Bayerischen Wirtschaft” (A Place of Encounter: From the Grand Hotel to the House of Bavarian Economy)—conveniently available for download as a PDF here.
